INTO THE BADLANDS
AMC’s Into the Badlands was my first big commercial production. I auditioned at Second Line Stages in NOLA in the spring and shot down in Algiers during the summer. I remember walking up and down St.Charles avenue and smelling the Gardenias and Honeysuckles in the still air of the night when I first went to audition out there. New Orleans is certainly an interesting and eclectic place. At the audition, I was lucky to have the director David Dobkin sit in; he gave great cues and was fantastic about getting out what he wanted to see from the actors. In between the time I auditioned and the time we filmed, I had broken my arm doing sport. I got surgery in the meantime and almost lost the part over the mishap. However, the production worked with me and, if you look carefully at the scene, you’ll see the cast on my arm wrapped decoratively to hide it! It was a great learning curve to be on set with a big director and actors with long lists of credits. David was sympathetic to my injury and worked with me to get the best shots. It was also a pleasure chopping it up with Marton Csokas at the wrap party. He saw my broken arm and struck up a conversation. An interesting fella and down to earth as they come. I would have loved to stay on the show but, I got the axe, literally!
